Wooden Chains – sculptural adaptabilty
These wooden chains are a unique design which encourages you to experiment with shape and form. They are extremely tactile; people love the feel of them, and the clacking sound made by the links as they slide past each other during the shaping process.
Explore the endless possibilities of the chain. It can be many different things, such as a decoration, an executive toy, a sculpture, or just something experiment with to see what you can come up with.
People enjoy bending it into all sorts of forms, from simple circles to complex geometric shapes such as animals, plants and dinosaurs.
Made from solid wood, usually beech, every link is hand-made and checked for smoothness. Its oiled finish is durable and non-toxic, and can’t be chipped. Instead it is incredibly easy to re-oil it once a year to ensure it has a long life.
The links are held together by durable pins which can be re-tightened if they work loose.

Elephants
A statuette in miniature, but not a carving, it is a sawn profile of an elephant which is free standing and stable, cut from a section of beech wood which still bears its bark. The bark of the beech tree is reminiscent of elephant skin, and the strength of beech wood reflects the strength of an elephant.
A variety of elephant designs are available at present.
March of the White Elephants (3 elephants) £55 + P&P
The three profile elephants represent a family group on the move. They were hand cut from solid beech wood and then finished with liming wax. They were then mounted on a highly polished elliptical piece of mahogany.
Family Pride (2 elephants) £35 + P&P
A bull elephant protects the baby elephant. They were hand cut from solid beech wood and then finished with liming wax. They were then mounted on an elliptical piece of highly polished mahogany.
Seahorse Carvings
Hand-carved seahorses in solid beech, relief (top pair) or incised (bottom pair) technique.
Pair of relief seahorses £50 + P&P
Pair of incised seahorses £40 + P&P Sold out
Chameleons
The chameleon adapts itself to look like its surroundings; this one is standing on a yew log and already looks like a piece of wood!
The chameleon’s profile was cut from a fallen ash tree which grew in a curl to protect itself from damage inflicted early in its growth.
Last one sold – they have all gone to new homes!
Seahorses
Neither woodcut, nor marquetry, it is simply an image of a seahorse, cut from a section of an ash tree which was damaged as it grew. The bark of the tree grew protectively around the damage creating the unique curled pattern which has been sectioned through to give the natural appearance of the seahorse’s body. The profile of the seahorse’s head was then carefully profiled to complete the piece, which was then mounted on a solid wood backing. Each seahorse is mounted on a piece of hardwood, usually solid oak or solid beech, and is individually numbered. A limited edition of only 30 was made, each being signed and dated. These seahorses have been popular at the Porty Art Walk.
£30 each – sold out
Woodwaves
Using natural curls of wood from trees that were damaged as they grew (like the Seahorses and Chameleons), I make wave patterns and mount them on driftwood.
